Steps
Goal: Rule out policy blocks and use the correct recovery sequence.
- Confirm the Chromebook is not managed.
- Good: Not managed. Proceed to Check if managed.
- Bad: Contact your admin; managed devices block developer mode.
Check if managed
Goal: Determine if policy blocks developer mode.
- Open Settings > About Chrome OS. Look for “This device is managed”.
- Good: Not managed. Proceed to Recovery mode steps.
- Bad: You need admin approval to enable developer mode.
Recovery mode steps
Goal: Use the correct key sequence.
- Turn off the Chromebook. Hold Esc+Refresh, press Power. At the recovery screen, press Ctrl+D. Confirm when prompted.
- Good: Developer mode enables. Wait for the first boot (5–15 minutes).
- Bad: Retry with the exact sequence. If it still fails, try a full recovery from USB.
