Steps
Goal: Confirm the symptom, adjust Night Light and color settings, then rule out external display or hardware issues.
- Check whether the display looks too warm, too cool, tinted, or washed out.
- Good: You have confirmed the symptom. Proceed to Built-in display or External display.
- Bad: Unclear—open Settings > Device > Displays and check Night Light and color options.
Built-in display
Goal: Adjust Night Light and color settings on the built-in screen.
- Settings > Device > Displays. Check Night Light—if it is on, it adds a warm tint. Turn it off or adjust the schedule.
- If your Chromebook has color or appearance options, adjust them. Some models offer color temperature (warm/cool). Move sliders toward neutral.
- Good: Colors look correct. Night Light off or adjusted.
- Bad: No color options and Night Light is off—restart; if still wrong after Powerwash, call support.
External display
Goal: Adjust color on an external monitor using its OSD.
- Use the monitor OSD (buttons on the monitor). Adjust color temperature, tint, and saturation. Set to neutral or sRGB if available.
- If colors are banded or wrong, try a different HDMI or USB-C cable. A bad cable can cause color issues.
- Good: Colors look correct. Monitor OSD adjusted.
- Bad: Cable and OSD checked, still wrong—call support.
Restart and Powerwash
Goal: Reset display state if settings do not stick.
- Restart the Chromebook. Recheck Settings > Device > Displays. If color was stuck, restart may fix it.
- If color settings keep reverting, Powerwash may help. Settings > Advanced > Reset settings > Powerwash. Back up your data first.
- Good: Settings persist after restart or Powerwash.
- Bad: Colors still wrong after Powerwash—call support.
