Fix a Chromebook that has display that will not extend
We'll set Extend mode in Chrome OS, detect the display, and fix when the display will not extend.

Steps
Goal: Get the second display to extend the desktop.
- Open Settings > Device > Displays. Under Multiple displays, choose Extend.
- Good: Extend selected. Proceed to Detect second display if not detected.
- Bad: Click Detect; check cable and port.
Set Extend mode
Goal: Switch from Mirror to Extend.
- Settings > Device > Displays > Multiple displays > Extend. Or press the display key to cycle modes.
- Good: Extend on. Bad: Click Detect; check cable.
Detect second display
Goal: Have the Chromebook see the second display.
- Settings > Device > Displays > Detect displays. Reseat cable. Try different port or cable.
- Good: Second display detected. Set Extend and arrange if needed.
- Bad: Try different cable, adapter, or display.
When to get help
Call support if:
- The second display is never detected after cable and port checks.
- The cable and display work with another device.
- The USB-C or HDMI port may have failed.
Verification
- The second display extends the desktop.
- You can drag windows between displays.
- Display settings show both displays with Extend selected.

Settings > Device > Displays. Drag the display icons to match your physical setup. Set primary if needed. Good: arrangement correct. Bad: if Extend was grayed out, go back and Detect.
