- Reseat the cable. Set the external display to the correct HDMI input.
- Good: Cable and input correct. Proceed to Select mirror mode.
- Bad: Try a different cable or display.
Select mirror mode
Goal: Have the Chromebook detect the display and switch to mirror mode.
- Open Settings > Device > Displays. Click “Detect” if the external display is not listed.
- Select the external display. Turn on “Mirror built-in display” or use the display key to cycle to mirror.
- Good: Same image on both screens. Mirror mode is active.
- Bad: Display not detected—try a different cable. Display detected but no mirror—try the display key or restart with the cable connected.
Detect and restart
Goal: Rule out detection issues.
- Restart the Chromebook with the cable connected. Some Chromebooks detect displays better at boot.
- After restart, open Settings > Device > Displays. Confirm the external display appears. Select mirror.
- Good: Display detected and mirror works.
- Bad: Try a different cable or adapter. If the cable and display work with another device, call support.
