Steps
Goal: Check rotation lock, display settings, and rule out accelerometer issues.
- Confirm the display stays fixed when you rotate the Chromebook.
- Good: You have confirmed rotation is not working. Proceed to Check rotation lock.
- Bad: Unclear—rotate the device and watch the display.
Check rotation lock
Goal: Allow the display to rotate with the device.
- Click the status area. Look for the rotation lock icon in Quick Settings. Turn it off.
- Good: Rotation lock is off. Rotate the device and test—the display should follow.
- Bad: Still fixed—check Display settings.
Display settings
Goal: Confirm Settings allow auto-rotation.
- Settings > Device > Displays. Check Orientation. If set to a fixed option (e.g. Landscape), change it to allow rotation. Some Chromebooks have an auto-rotate toggle—confirm it is on.
- Good: Settings allow rotation. Restart and test.
- Bad: Still fixed—restart the Chromebook.
Restart and Powerwash
Goal: Reset stuck rotation state.
- Restart the Chromebook. Rotate and test.
- If rotation still will not work, Powerwash. Back up data first. Settings > Advanced > Reset settings > Powerwash.
- Good: Rotation works after restart or Powerwash.
- Bad: Still will not rotate—call support. The accelerometer may need repair.

- Rotation will not work after restart and Powerwash.
- The display never responds when you turn a convertible Chromebook.
