Steps

Goal: Rule out cable, input, and detection so HDMI works.

  • Confirm the HDMI cable is firmly connected at both ends.
  • Good: Connected. Proceed to Check connections.
  • Bad: Reseat the cable; set the display to HDMI input.

Check connections

Goal: Ensure cable and display input are correct.

  • Reseat the cable. Set the external display to the correct HDMI input.
  • Good: Cable and input correct. Proceed to Detect display.
  • Bad: Try a different cable or display.

Detect display

Goal: Have the Chromebook detect the external display.

  • Press the display key or open Settings > Device > Displays > Detect.
  • Good: Display is detected. Adjust resolution if needed.
  • Bad: Try a different cable, adapter, or display.

When to get help

Contact support if:

  • The cable and display work with another device.
  • The Chromebook still does not output video.

Verification

  • The external display shows the Chromebook screen (mirror or extend).
  • Video and audio (if supported) work.
  • No “No signal” on the display.
