Steps

Goal: Rule out plug, output, and headphones so sound works.

  • Confirm the headphone plug is fully inserted.
  • Good: Plug clicks into place. Proceed to Check connection.
  • Bad: Push firmly until it clicks.

Check connection

Goal: Confirm proper contact.

  • Reinsert the plug firmly. Check that the Chromebook switches to headphone output.
  • Good: Output switches. Proceed to Check output.
  • Bad: Try different headphones; clean the jack.

Check output

Goal: Confirm the correct audio output is selected.

  • Click the volume icon. Select “Headphones” or the headphone output. Turn up the volume.
  • Good: Headphones selected. Sound should work.
  • Bad: Restart and check again.
