Steps

Goal: Rule out software and debris, then isolate hardware failure.

  • Restart the Chromebook.
  • Good: Keyboard works after restart.
  • Bad: Check Settings and clean under keys.

Restart

Goal: Clear keyboard driver glitches.

  • Click the clock, Power, Restart. Test the keyboard after restart.
  • Good: Keyboard responds.
  • Bad: Use the on-screen keyboard (Search + Shift + S) to navigate and clean.

Clean keys

Goal: Remove debris that blocks key presses.

  • Turn off the Chromebook. Use compressed air under the keys. Wipe keys with a dry cloth.
  • Good: Keys respond. If not, try an external USB keyboard.
  • Bad: Call a technician—keyboard may need replacement.

When to get help

Call a technician if:

  • The on-screen keyboard works but the physical keyboard does not.
  • Cleaning and Powerwash do not help.
  • The keyboard may need replacement.

Verification

  • Keys type correctly in a text field.
  • No stuck or sticky keys.
  • Keyboard settings are correct.
