  • Confirm the Chromebook is connected to Wi‑Fi.
  • Good: Connected. Proceed to Check Wi‑Fi first.
  • Bad: Connect to Wi‑Fi, then retry Powerwash.

Check Wi‑Fi first

Goal: Ensure internet is available for Powerwash.

  • Check the network icon. Sign out of all accounts if Powerwash is grayed out.
  • Good: Wi‑Fi connected. Proceed to Recovery mode if Powerwash still fails.
  • Bad: Connect to Wi‑Fi and retry.

Recovery mode

Goal: Use recovery as an alternative to Powerwash.

  • Hold Esc+Refresh, then press Power. At the recovery screen, follow prompts to reinstall Chrome OS.
  • Good: Recovery completes. Chromebook is reset.
  • Bad: If recovery also fails, call support.

When to get help

Contact support if:

  • The Chromebook is managed and Powerwash is blocked.
  • Recovery mode fails repeatedly.
  • You see hardware errors during reset.

Verification

  • Powerwash completes and the Chromebook shows the setup screen.
  • All user data is removed.
  • Chrome OS is freshly installed.
