Steps
Goal: Rule out insert, card, and format so the SD card is detected.
- Confirm the SD card is fully inserted.
- Good: Card clicks into place. Proceed to Reinsert card.
- Bad: Push firmly until it clicks.
Reinsert card
Goal: Ensure proper contact.
- Eject in Files. Remove the card. Wait 5 seconds. Reinsert firmly until it clicks.
- Good: Card appears in Files. Proceed to Test in another device.
- Bad: Restart and check again.
Test in another device
Goal: Determine if the card is faulty.
- Test the card in a phone or another computer.
- Good: Card works elsewhere. Format as FAT32 if needed; clean the slot.
- Bad: Card is faulty—replace it.
When to get help
Contact support if:
- The card works in other devices.
- The card is fully inserted.
- The Chromebook still does not detect it.
Verification
- The SD card appears in the Files app.
- You can open files on the card.
- Settings > Storage shows the SD card.
