Steps

Goal: Rule out volume, mute, and output so the speakers work.

  • Confirm the volume is up and not muted.
  • Good: Volume up. Proceed to Check volume.
  • Bad: Turn up volume; turn off mute.

Check volume

Goal: Ensure volume and mute are correct.

  • Press the volume-up key. Check the volume icon for a mute symbol. Turn off mute if needed.
  • Good: Volume up, not muted. Proceed to Check output.
  • Bad: Unmute and increase volume.

Check output

Goal: Ensure sound goes to the internal speakers.

  • Click the volume icon. Select “Internal speaker”. Unplug any headphones.
  • Good: Correct output. Restart and test.
  • Bad: Select Internal speaker; unplug headphones.

When to get help

Contact support if:

  • Volume and output are correct.
  • Headphones are unplugged.
  • There is still no sound.

Verification

  • Sound plays through the internal speakers.
  • The volume icon shows the correct level.
