Steps
Goal: Free storage and ensure a stable connection so updates can download.
- Check storage—need at least 1–2 GB free.
- Good: Storage free. Proceed to Check for updates.
- Bad: Free storage first.

Goal: Ensure adequate space for updates.
- Delete files, empty Trash, remove Android apps. Need at least 1–2 GB free.
- Good: Storage freed. Check for updates.
- Bad: Remove more files or Android apps.
Check for updates
Goal: Manually trigger an update.
- Settings, About Chrome OS, Check for updates. Wait for the download. Restart when prompted.
- Good: Update applies.
- Bad: Restart and retry. Check if the device is end-of-life.
When to get help
Call a technician if:
- The device is supported (not end-of-life).
- Storage is free and connection is good.
- Updates still fail after Powerwash.
Verification
- Storage has at least 1–2 GB free.
- Update downloads and applies.
- Chromebook restarts and shows the new version.
