Steps

Goal: Replace batteries, bring the sensor close, and put the system in pairing mode so the sensor pairs.

  • Confirm the sensor will not pair. Replace the batteries with fresh CR2032 or per manual.
  • Good: Batteries replaced. Proceed to Pairing mode.
  • Bad: Replace batteries first. See Replace batteries.

Replace batteries

Goal: Rule out low batteries that prevent pairing.

  • Remove the old batteries. Wait 10 seconds. Insert fresh batteries.
  • Confirm the sensor LED blinks or the sensor responds when opened. Retry pairing.

Pairing mode

Goal: Put the system in pairing mode and add the sensor.

  • Follow the manual exactly. Put the system in pairing or add-device mode.
  • Bring the sensor within 3–5 feet of the panel. Open and close the sensor during the window if required.
  • Confirm the sensor pairs and appears in the system.

When to get help

  • Call your alarm company or vendor if the sensor still will not pair after replacing batteries, bringing it close, and putting the system in pairing mode.
  • Do not open the control panel—that can trigger a tamper alarm.

Verification

  • The sensor pairs and appears in the system or app.
  • The sensor reports open/closed correctly when the door or window is opened.
  • No fault or offline status for the sensor.

Escalation ladder

Work from the device outward. Stop when the problem is fixed.

  1. Replace batteries Low batteries prevent pairing. Use fresh CR2032 or per manual.
  2. Bring sensor close Within 3–5 feet of the panel or hub during pairing.
  3. Pairing mode Put the system in pairing mode per the manual; act within the window.
  4. Reset sensor Reset the sensor per the manual, then retry pairing.
  5. Call a pro Alarm company or vendor for faulty or incompatible sensor.

Have you replaced the batteries?

Low batteries prevent pairing. Use fresh CR2032 or per manual.

Replace the batteries with fresh CR2032 or the type in your manual. Remove old batteries, wait 10 seconds, insert new ones. Good: batteries replaced. Bad: not yet—replace them first.

You can change your answer later.

Replace batteries

Replace the batteries. Confirm the sensor LED blinks or the sensor responds when opened. Retry pairing.

Is the sensor within 3–5 feet of the panel?

The sensor must be close to the panel or hub during pairing.

Remove the sensor from the door. Hold it within 3–5 feet of the control panel or hub. Good: sensor is close. Bad: sensor is far—bring it close.

You can change your answer later.

Bring sensor close

Hold the sensor within 3–5 feet of the panel. Put the system in pairing mode. Retry.

Is the system in pairing mode?

Follow the manual. Pairing window is usually 1–2 minutes.

Put the system in pairing mode per the manual. Enter code + button, or use the app. Open and close the sensor during the window if required. Good: system is in pairing mode. Bad: not in pairing mode—follow the manual exactly.

You can change your answer later.

Retry pairing

Follow the manual for pairing mode. Act within the 1–2 minute window. Open and close the sensor if required. Retry.
