Steps

Goal: Check input, cable, and source—then isolate the cause.

  • Confirm the display is on the correct HDMI input (HDMI 1, HDMI 2, etc.). Use the remote or display buttons.
  • Good: The picture appears—wrong input was the cause.
  • Bad: Still no picture—proceed to Check input and cable.

Check input and cable

Goal: Rule out wrong input and loose or bad cable.

  • Unplug and reconnect the cable at both the source and the display. Push until fully seated.
  • Try a different HDMI cable. For 4K or HDR, use an HDMI 2.0 or High Speed cable.
  • Good: The picture appears with a different cable or after reseating—you have isolated the cause.
  • Bad: Still no picture—proceed to Power-cycle and source.

Power-cycle and source

Goal: Reset the connection and verify the source is outputting.

  • Turn off both the source and the display. Unplug both from power for 30 seconds. Plug back in, turn on the display first, then the source.
  • PC: Check display settings—extend or duplicate. Console or streaming box: Confirm the correct input is selected.
  • Try the source on a different display. If it works there, the problem is with the original display.
  • Good: The picture appears after power-cycle or on another display.
  • Bad: Still no signal—see When to get help.

When to get help

Call the manufacturer if:

  • The display works with another source but not with yours.
  • You have tried different cables, inputs, and power cycles and still get no signal.
  • The source works on another display but not on this one.

Verification

  • The display shows the source picture on the correct HDMI input.
  • No flickering or intermittent signal loss.
  • Resolution and refresh rate are correct for your setup.

Escalation ladder

Work from the device outward. Stop when the problem is fixed.

  1. Check input Ensure display is on the correct HDMI input.
  2. Check cable seating Unplug and reconnect at both ends; try different cable.
  3. Power-cycle Turn off both devices, unplug 30 seconds, restart.
  4. Try different port or display Try each HDMI port; try source on another display.
  5. Call support Manufacturer if display works with other source but not yours.

What to capture if you need help

Before calling support or posting for help, have these ready. It speeds everything up.

  • Display and source make and model
  • HDMI cable type (1.4, 2.0, High Speed)
  • Whether the display works with another source
  • Steps already tried

Is the display on the correct HDMI input?

Many displays have multiple HDMI inputs. The wrong input shows no signal.

Use the remote or display buttons to switch to the HDMI input where the source is connected. Good: picture appears—wrong input was the cause. Bad: still no picture—check cable and seating.

You can change your answer later.

Switch to correct input

Select the HDMI input that matches the port where the source is plugged in. HDMI 1, HDMI 2, etc.

Is the cable firmly seated at both ends?

HDMI can work loose. Unplug and reconnect at source and display.

Unplug and reconnect the cable at both ends. Push until fully seated. Good: picture appears—loose connection was the cause. Bad: still no picture—try different cable.

You can change your answer later.

Reseat cable and test

Push the cable in firmly at both ends. A loose connection often causes no signal.

Does a different HDMI cable fix it?

HDMI cables can fail. Try a known-good cable.

Swap for a known-good HDMI 2.0 or High Speed cable. Good: picture appears—replace the bad cable. Bad: still no picture—power-cycle both devices.

You can change your answer later.

Replace cable and test

Use the working cable. The original cable was faulty.

Power-cycle and check source

Turn off both devices, unplug 30 seconds, restart. Check that the source is outputting (PC display settings, console input). If the display works with another source, the original source or port may be faulty—call support.

Frequently asked questions

Why would HDMI show no picture?
Common causes: wrong input selected, loose cable, bad cable, source not outputting, or resolution mismatch. Check input and cable first, then power-cycle both devices.
Does HDMI cable version matter?
Yes. HDMI 1.4 supports 4K at 30 Hz. HDMI 2.0 supports 4K at 60 Hz and HDR. Older or cheap cables may not support the resolution or refresh rate you need.
When should I call support for HDMI?
Call support if the display works with another source but not with yours, or if you have tried different cables and inputs and still get no signal. The port or source may need repair.
