Steps

Goal: Confirm the correct code, check for lockout, clean the keypad, then power-cycle or call a pro.

Confirm code and lockout

Goal: Rule out wrong code and lockout.

  • Confirm the code with your alarm company or paperwork.
  • If the keypad is in lockout, wait 15–30 minutes. Do not keep trying.
  • Enter the code slowly. Confirm each digit registers.

Clean and power-cycle

Goal: Clean the keypad and power-cycle the panel.

  • Wipe the keypad with a dry, soft cloth. Dirt or moisture can cause keys to not register.
  • Power-cycle the control panel: turn off the breaker for 30 seconds, then restore power.
  • Try the code again. If it still will not accept, call your alarm company.

When to get help

  • Call your alarm company if you have confirmed the code, waited out the lockout, cleaned the keypad, and power-cycled, and it still will not accept the code.
  • Do not open the control panel—that can trigger a tamper alarm.

Verification

  • The keypad accepts the code and the system arms or disarms.
  • No lockout or wrong-code errors.
  • All keys respond when pressed.

Escalation ladder

Work from the device outward. Stop when the problem is fixed.

  1. Confirm code Verify you have the correct master or user code.
  2. Check lockout Wait for lockout to expire if too many wrong attempts.
  3. Clean keypad Wipe keys; dirt or moisture can cause no response.
  4. Power-cycle Turn off power to the panel for 30 seconds, then restore.
  5. Call a pro Alarm company to reset lockout or reprogram.
