Does the lock message say to try again later?

Many locks are temporary (15–30 minutes). Do not retry during the lockout.

Read the lock message. If it says "try again in X minutes" or similar, wait. Do not attempt to log in repeatedly. Good: wait, then try with correct password. Bad: no time given or lock persists—try Forgot password.

You can change your answer later.

Wait and retry

Wait for the lockout period. Try logging in with the correct password. If it works, you are done. If not, use Forgot password.

Can you access your recovery email or phone?

Forgot password sends a reset link or code to recovery email or phone.

Click Forgot password. Enter your email or username. Check recovery email and phone for the reset link or code. Good: you receive it—use it to reset and regain access. Bad: no access to recovery—try account recovery.

You can change your answer later.

Reset password and regain access

Use the reset link or code. Set a new password. The account should regain access. Add or update recovery options in security settings.

Is this a work or school account?

Work/school accounts (Microsoft 365, Google Workspace) are managed by IT.

If work or school, contact your IT admin. They can regain access or reset. Good: IT restores access. Bad: personal account—use the service account recovery form or contact support.

You can change your answer later.

Contact IT

Contact your IT admin with your email and username. They can restore access to the account or reset the password.

Contact support

Use the service account recovery form or contact support. Provide email, username, and any account details. Some services take 24–48 hours to review.

Too many wrong passwords, suspicious login attempts, or the service detected unusual activity. Many locks are temporary (15–30 minutes); others require password reset or account recovery.
How do I regain access to a locked Google account?
Go to accounts.google.com, sign in if possible, or use account recovery. Answer security questions or use your recovery email/phone. Google will send a verification code or link.
