Steps
Goal: Rule out brightness and apps so battery lasts longer.
- Check Battery usage in Settings to find top drainers.
- Good: Top drainers identified. Proceed to Check Battery usage.
- Bad: Lower brightness and restrict background first.
Check Battery usage
Goal: Find what is draining the battery.
- Open Settings > Battery (or Battery & Device Care on Samsung). Review apps that used the most battery in the last 24 hours or 7 days. Restrict background refresh for apps you do not need.
- Good: Top drainers identified and restricted. Proceed to Lower brightness.
- Bad: If no clear app, check battery health.
Lower brightness
Goal: Reduce the largest power drain.
- Lower screen brightness to 50–70%. Enable Low Power Mode (iPhone) or Battery Saver (Android). Turn off location for nonessential apps. Turn off Bluetooth and Wi‑Fi when not in use.
- Good: Brightness and radios optimized. Battery should last longer.
- Bad: Run battery health check. If health is low, call a technician.
When to get help
Call a technician if:
- You have optimized settings and the battery still drains very fast.
- Battery health is low (under 80% on iPhone).
- The battery is swollen—do not use; fire hazard.
Verification
- Battery lasts longer with lower brightness and fewer background apps.
- Low Power Mode or Battery Saver is on when needed.
- Battery usage in Settings shows lower drain from top apps.
- Battery health is above 80% (or replacement is planned).
Escalation ladder
Work from the device outward. Stop when the problem is fixed.
- Battery usage Check Settings > Battery for top drainers.
- Brightness and background Lower brightness; restrict background app refresh.
- Location and radios Turn off location, Bluetooth, Wi‑Fi when not needed.
- Battery health Check battery health; if low, replacement may be needed.
- Call a pro Battery may need replacement; swollen battery—do not use.
