Steps

Goal: Rule out brightness and apps so battery lasts longer.

  • Check Battery usage in Settings to find top drainers.
  • Good: Top drainers identified. Proceed to Check Battery usage.
  • Bad: Lower brightness and restrict background first.

Check Battery usage

Goal: Find what is draining the battery.

  • Open Settings > Battery (or Battery & Device Care on Samsung). Review apps that used the most battery in the last 24 hours or 7 days. Restrict background refresh for apps you do not need.
  • Good: Top drainers identified and restricted. Proceed to Lower brightness.
  • Bad: If no clear app, check battery health.

Lower brightness

Goal: Reduce the largest power drain.

  • Lower screen brightness to 50–70%. Enable Low Power Mode (iPhone) or Battery Saver (Android). Turn off location for nonessential apps. Turn off Bluetooth and Wi‑Fi when not in use.
  • Good: Brightness and radios optimized. Battery should last longer.
  • Bad: Run battery health check. If health is low, call a technician.

When to get help

Call a technician if:

  • You have optimized settings and the battery still drains very fast.
  • Battery health is low (under 80% on iPhone).
  • The battery is swollen—do not use; fire hazard.

Verification

  • Battery lasts longer with lower brightness and fewer background apps.
  • Low Power Mode or Battery Saver is on when needed.
  • Battery usage in Settings shows lower drain from top apps.
  • Battery health is above 80% (or replacement is planned).

Escalation ladder

Work from the device outward. Stop when the problem is fixed.

  1. Battery usage Check Settings > Battery for top drainers.
  2. Brightness and background Lower brightness; restrict background app refresh.
  3. Location and radios Turn off location, Bluetooth, Wi‑Fi when not needed.
  4. Battery health Check battery health; if low, replacement may be needed.
  5. Call a pro Battery may need replacement; swollen battery—do not use.

What to capture if you need help

Before calling support or posting for help, have these ready. It speeds everything up.

  • Phone model and OS version
  • Battery health (if available)
  • Top apps from Battery usage
  • Steps already tried

Is screen brightness high?

Brightness is a major drain.

Lower to 50–70%. Enable Low Power Mode or Battery Saver. High: lower brightness. Low: check Battery usage for top drainers.

You can change your answer later.

Lower brightness

Use Control Center (iPhone) or Quick Settings (Android). Set to 50–70%. Enable Low Power Mode or Battery Saver.

Have you checked Battery usage and restricted background apps?

Background apps and location drain the battery.

Open Settings > Battery. Restrict background refresh for top drainers. Turn off location for nonessential apps. Turn off Bluetooth and Wi‑Fi when not needed. Good: drain reduced. Bad: check battery health—if low, replacement may be needed.

You can change your answer later.

Is battery health under 80%?

Old battery cannot hold charge well.

iPhone: Settings > Battery > Battery Health. Android: check manufacturer settings or app. Under 80%: battery may be worn—call a technician for replacement. Over 80%: continue restricting apps and lowering brightness.

You can change your answer later.

Call a technician

Battery health is low or battery is swollen. Replacement may be needed. Do not use a swollen battery—it can be a fire hazard.

Done

Battery drain reduced.

Frequently asked questions

Why would a phone battery drain slowly but noticeably?
High brightness, background apps, location services, weak signal, or old battery. Check Battery usage in Settings first to see top drainers.
Can I fix slow battery drain myself?
Yes. Lower brightness, restrict background apps, turn off location and Bluetooth when not needed. If the battery is old (low health), replacement may be needed.
When should I call a technician for battery drain?
If you have optimized settings and the battery still drains very fast, or the battery health is low. A technician can replace the battery.
