Steps

Goal: Confirm the symptom, rule out obstruction, clean the track, then isolate the cause—rollers or hardware—or call a pro.

  • Try to slide the door open and closed. Note whether it does not move at all, binds partway, or slides slowly with grinding.
  • Good: The door does not slide or slides with difficulty—proceed to Check obstruction.
  • Bad: The door slides smoothly—no problem.

Check obstruction

Goal: Rule out debris or objects blocking the door.

  • Look at the floor where the door travels and inside the track. Remove any debris, carpet fibers, screws, or objects.
  • Good: Obstruction found and removed—test the door. If it slides, you are done.
  • Bad: No obstruction—proceed to Clean track and rollers.

Clean track and rollers

Goal: Remove dirt and buildup that cause friction and binding.

  • Vacuum the track channel. Wipe with a damp cloth and dry. Apply a thin coat of silicone spray or paraffin wax if the door still binds—avoid oil or grease.
  • Inspect the rollers for cracks, flat spots, or missing bearings. If damaged, replace the set: remove the door by lifting it out of the hangers, replace rollers, rehang.
  • Good: Track clean and rollers good—test the door. If it slides, you are done.
  • Bad: Track bent or damaged—call a carpenter. Do not try to straighten a bent track.

Adjust hangers

Goal: Level the door and correct height so it does not drag or bind.

  • Turn the adjustment screws on the hangers to raise, lower, or level the door. Adjust both sides evenly. Small turns make a big difference.
  • Good: Door levels and slides smoothly.
  • Bad: Door still binds after adjustment—track may be bent or door warped. Call a pro.

When to get help

Call a carpenter or handyman if:

  • The track is bent or damaged.
  • The door is warped.
  • You have cleaned the track, replaced rollers, and adjusted hangers and it still will not slide.
  • The pocket frame is damaged.

Do not force a stuck door—it can damage the track or frame.

Verification

  • The door slides fully open and closed without resistance.
  • No grinding, binding, or dragging.
  • The track is clean and the rollers roll smoothly in the channel.

Escalation ladder

Work from the device outward. Stop when the problem is fixed.

  1. Confirm symptom Note whether the door does not move, binds partway, or slides slowly.
  2. Obstruction Check for debris, carpet, or objects blocking the floor or track.
  3. Track and rollers Clean the track; inspect and replace damaged rollers.
  4. Hanger adjustment Adjust height and alignment via hanger screws.
  5. Call a pro Track bent, door warped, or fixes did not work—call a carpenter or handyman.

What to capture if you need help

Before calling support or posting for help, have these ready. It speeds everything up.

  • Whether the door moves at all or is completely stuck
  • Condition of the track (dirty, bent, damaged)
  • Condition of the rollers (cracks, flat spots)
  • Steps already tried

Does the door not slide at all or slide with difficulty?

Try to slide the door open and closed. Note whether it is stuck, binds partway, or grinds.

Try to slide the door. Good: door does not move or binds—proceed to check obstruction. Bad: door slides smoothly—no problem. If unsure, check for obstruction and clean the track.

You can change your answer later.

Is there debris or obstruction on the floor or track?

Debris, carpet, screws, or objects can block the door from sliding.

Look at the floor and inside the track. Remove any obstruction. Good: obstruction found and removed—test the door. Bad: no obstruction—proceed to clean the track.

You can change your answer later.

Test the door after removing obstruction

Remove the obstruction and test the door. If it slides smoothly, you are done. If it still binds, proceed to clean the track and check rollers.

Is the track dirty or damaged?

Dirt and buildup cause friction. A bent track requires a pro.

Vacuum and wipe the track. If the track is bent or damaged, call a carpenter—do not try to straighten it. Good: track clean—test the door. Bad: track bent—call a pro. Clean but still binds: check rollers.

You can change your answer later.

Clean the track and test

Vacuum the track channel and wipe with a damp cloth. Dry it. Apply a thin coat of silicone spray or paraffin wax if needed. Test the door. If it still binds, check the rollers.

Are the rollers damaged or worn?

Cracks, flat spots, or missing bearings cause binding.

Inspect the rollers. If cracked, flat, or worn, replace the set. Remove the door by lifting it out of the hangers, replace rollers, rehang. Good: rollers replaced—test. Bad: rollers good but still binds—adjust hangers or call a pro.

You can change your answer later.

Replace rollers and test

Replace the rollers with matching parts. Rehang the door and test. If it still binds, adjust the hanger screws to level the door.

Adjust hanger height and alignment

Turn the adjustment screws on the hangers to raise, lower, or level the door. Adjust both sides evenly. Test the door. If it still will not slide, the track may be bent or the door warped—call a pro.

Door slides smoothly

No action needed. The door is working.
