Steps
Goal: Check the cable, port, and configuration so the port links.
- Confirm the cable is firmly seated. Try a different cable to rule out a bad cable.
- Try a different port on the switch or router.
- Check that the port is not disabled and VLAN is correct if applicable.
- Good: The port links and the link light is on. Bad: The port still will not link—call support.
Cable check
Goal: Confirm the cable is fine.
- Seat the cable firmly. Try a known-good cable.
- Good: Cable is fine. Bad: Cable bad—replace it.
Port check
Goal: Confirm the port is enabled and configured.
- Check the port is not disabled. Check VLAN if the switch uses VLANs.
- Good: Port enabled. Bad: Port disabled—enable it.
When to get help
Call the manufacturer if:
- The port still will not link after trying different ports and cables.
- The port or device may be faulty.
Verification
- The link light is on at the port.
- The connected device has network access.
- No intermittent link drops.
Escalation ladder
Work from the device outward. Stop when the problem is fixed.

- Check port config Confirm port is not disabled, check VLAN.
- Restart Power-cycle the switch or router.
- Call support Manufacturer support if all steps fail.
