Steps

Goal: Check outlets, circuit, and pairing so the powerline adapter connects.

  • Plug both adapters directly into wall outlets—not power strips or surge protectors.
  • Confirm both adapters are on the same electrical circuit.
  • Pair the adapters if they have a pairing button.
  • Good: The powerline adapter connects. Bad: The adapter still will not connect—try different outlets or call support.

Outlet check

Goal: Confirm both adapters are in wall outlets.

  • Power strips and surge protectors block the powerline signal. Use wall outlets only.
  • Good: Both in wall outlets. Bad: One or both in power strip—move to wall.

Pairing check

Goal: Pair the adapters.

  • Press the pairing button on one adapter, then on the other within 2 minutes. Check the manual for your model.
  • Good: Adapters paired and connected. Bad: Pairing fails—reset and try again.

When to get help

Call the manufacturer if:

  • The powerline adapter still will not connect after checking outlets, circuit, and pairing.
  • Your electrical wiring may not support powerline (old wiring, different phases).

Verification

  • Both adapters show a link or connection light.
  • Devices connected through the powerline get internet.
  • Link speed is stable.

Escalation ladder

Work from the device outward. Stop when the problem is fixed.

  1. Check outlets Both adapters in wall outlets, not power strips.
  2. Same circuit Confirm both adapters on same electrical circuit.
  3. Pair adapters Use pairing button if available.
  4. Try different outlets Test different outlets on the circuit.
  5. Call support Manufacturer support if all steps fail.

What to capture if you need help

Before calling support or posting for help, have these ready. It speeds everything up.

Are both adapters plugged directly into wall outlets?

Power strips and surge protectors block powerline signal.

Plug both adapters into wall outlets, not power strips. Good: both in wall outlets. Bad: one or both in power strip—move to wall.

You can change your answer later.

Move to wall outlets

Unplug from power strips. Plug both adapters directly into wall outlets. Check if they connect.

Are both adapters on the same electrical circuit?

Different circuits may not pass the powerline signal.

Check if both outlets are on the same circuit (same breaker). Good: same circuit. Bad: different circuits—try outlets on the same circuit.

You can change your answer later.

Try different outlets

Try outlets that are on the same circuit. Or try outlets in the same room. Check if the adapters connect.

Pair the adapters

Press the pairing button on one adapter, then on the other within 2 minutes. Good: adapters connect. Bad: still will not connect—reset and re-pair, or call support.
