Fix a reptile fogger that will not mist
We'll confirm the symptom, check power and water level, then isolate the cause—mineral buildup on the ultrasonic disc, blocked tubing, or failed fan—or tell you when to call a pro.
What you'll need
- White vinegar (for descaling)
- Soft brush or pipe cleaner
- Replacement ultrasonic disc (if cleaning fails)

- Follow this guide Work through the full procedure from confirming the symptom to cleaning or replacing parts.
- Check power and water You want to rule out power and water level first.
- Clean ultrasonic disc You see mineral buildup on the disc and want to descale.
- Check tubing and fan Fog forms in the reservoir but does not exit the tube.
- When to call a pro Cleaning and parts replacement did not fix it, or you see electrical damage.

Steps
Goal: Confirm the symptom, rule out power and water, then isolate the misting fault.
- Turn the fogger on and set it to the highest output. Listen for the fan or pump.
- Good: The unit runs but no mist comes from the outlet or tubing—misting system has failed. Proceed to Check power and water.
- Bad: The unit does not run at all—different problem (power, control). Check power first.
Check power and water
Goal: Rule out power loss and water issues before cleaning or replacing parts.
- Confirm the fogger is plugged in and the outlet works. Check the water reservoir—it must be between the minimum and maximum fill lines.
- On models with a water bottle, ensure the bottle is full and squeeze gently to release water into the reservoir. If the float is stuck to the bottom, tap it to free it.
- Good: Power is on, water level is correct, and the float is free. Proceed to Check mist outlet and tubing.
- Bad: Empty reservoir, stuck float, or overfilled—fix those first.
Check mist outlet and tubing
Goal: Clear blockage and confirm fog can exit. If fog forms inside but does not exit, the fan may have failed.
- Inspect the mist outlet, nozzle, and tubing for dust, mineral crust, or debris. Disconnect the tubing and look inside. Use a soft brush or pipe cleaner to clear blockage. Check for kinks.
- With the fogger on, look into the reservoir. If fog forms inside but none comes out of the tubing, the fan that pushes fog through the tube may have failed.
- Unplug and inspect the fan area for obstructions. Clear dust or debris. If the fan is clear but does not spin when powered on, the motor has failed—call a technician.
- Good: Outlet and tubing are clear, and the fan pushes fog through. Proceed to Clean ultrasonic disc.
- Bad: Fog forms but the fan does not push it through—call a technician if the fan does not spin.
Clean ultrasonic disc
Goal: Remove mineral buildup from the ultrasonic disc (transducer).
- Unplug the fogger and empty the base or reservoir. Fill the base with undiluted white vinegar to cover the ultrasonic disc (the disc that vibrates to create mist).
- Soak 30–60 minutes. Gently scrub with a soft brush to remove loosened scale—do not scratch the disc. Rinse thoroughly with water and dry.
- Use distilled water going forward to reduce future mineral buildup.
- Good: The disc is free of white or tan crust. The fogger should produce mist.
- Bad: Still no mist after cleaning—replace the disc or call a technician.
When to get help
Call an appliance technician if:
- You have cleaned the ultrasonic disc, cleared the tubing, and the fogger still does not mist.
- Fog forms in the reservoir but the fan does not push it through the tube.
- You see electrical damage, burning smell, or sparks.
- You are not comfortable cleaning or replacing parts.
Verification
- Visible mist comes from the outlet or tubing within a few minutes of turning the fogger on.
- The ultrasonic disc is free of mineral scale.
- No unusual noises, burning smell, or error indicators.
Escalation ladder
Work from the device outward. Stop when the problem is fixed.
- Confirm symptom Verify the fogger runs but no mist; rule out a different problem.
- Power and water Check plug, outlet, water level, and float.
- Mist outlet and tubing Clear any blockage at the outlet, nozzle, or tubing.
- Clean ultrasonic disc Soak the disc in vinegar to remove mineral scale.
- Check fan Clear obstructions or replace fan if it does not push fog through the tube.
- Call a pro Cleaning and parts did not fix it; fan runs but no airflow; or electrical damage.
What to capture if you need help
Before calling support or posting for help, have these ready. It speeds everything up.
- Whether the fan or pump runs
- Whether fog forms in the reservoir but does not exit
- Whether mineral buildup is visible on the ultrasonic disc
- Whether the tubing is blocked or kinked
- Steps already tried
Does the fogger run but produce no mist?
Turn it on and set to highest output. Listen for the fan or pump. If it runs but no mist comes from the outlet or tubing, the misting system has failed.
You can change your answer later.
Is power on and water level correct?
Check plug, outlet, water level (between min and max lines), and float. On bottle models, ensure the bottle is full and the float is not stuck.
You can change your answer later.
Is the mist outlet and tubing clear?
Dust, mineral crust, or debris can block the outlet or tubing. Kinked tubing also stops mist.
You can change your answer later.
Does fog form in the reservoir but not exit the tube?
If fog forms inside but does not travel through the tubing, the fan may have failed.
Yes (fan issue) No (transducer issue)
You can change your answer later.
Is the fan obstructed or not spinning?
The fan pushes fog through the tubing. Obstructions or a failed motor stop fog from exiting.
Is the fan working?
Is there mineral buildup on the ultrasonic disc?
Mineral scale on the disc is the most common cause of no mist in reptile foggers.
You can change your answer later.

Frequently asked questions
- Why would a reptile fogger run but not produce mist?
- Common causes: mineral buildup on the ultrasonic disc (transducer), low water level or a stuck float, blocked mist outlet or tubing, or a failed fan that does not push fog through the tube. Tap water leaves scale on the disc; distilled water reduces buildup.
- Can I fix a reptile fogger that will not mist myself?
- Yes. Most no-mist issues are mineral buildup or water level problems you can fix with vinegar cleaning and correct water level. Check the tubing for blockage. If the fan fails and fog does not travel through the tube, you may need to replace the fan or call a technician.
- When should I call a technician for a reptile fogger that will not mist?
- Call an appliance technician if you have cleaned the ultrasonic disc, cleared the tubing, and the fogger still does not mist; fog forms in the reservoir but the fan does not push it through the tube; or you see electrical damage or burning smell.
