Steps

Goal: Sign back in, extend the session, or fix what causes it to expire.

Sign back in

Enter your username and password. Complete two-factor authentication if the service requires it. Most session expirations are resolved by signing in again.

Good: You see your account or dashboard.
Bad: Login fails—check fix-password-will-not-reset or fix-account-requires-verification.

Check “Remember me”

On the login form, look for “Remember me,” “Stay signed in,” or “Keep me logged in.” Check the box before signing in. This often extends the session from hours to days or weeks.

Good: Option is checked and session lasts longer.
Bad: No such option—rely on clearing cookies and time sync if the session keeps expiring.

Clear cookies

If you sign in but the site still shows “session expired,” clear cookies for that site. Chrome: Settings > Privacy > Cookies > See all site data > search for the site > Remove. Firefox: Settings > Privacy > Cookies > Manage Data > search > Remove. Safari: Preferences > Privacy > Manage Website Data > find the site > Remove. Sign in again.

Good: Fresh session after clearing cookies.
Bad: Still expires—try private window, check time sync, or contact support.

Try a private or incognito window

Goal: Isolate whether cached data in your normal browser causes the session error.

Open a private or incognito window. Go to the site and sign in. If it works there, the problem is cached data in your main browser. Clear cookies and cache for the site in your main browser, then retry.

Good: Session works in private mode—clear main browser cache and cookies.
Bad: Same error in private mode—check time sync or contact support.

Check device date and time

Goal: Confirm the device clock is correct so session timestamps validate.

Sessions use timestamps. If your device clock is wrong, the server may reject your session. Set date and time to automatic in your device settings (Windows: Settings > Time & language > Date & time; Mac: System Settings > General > Date & Time; phones: Settings > Date & time).

Good: Clock is correct and session works.
Bad: Clock is correct but session still expires—try disabling extensions, a different browser, or contact support.

Disable extensions

Goal: Rule out ad blockers or privacy extensions that block or clear session cookies.

Ad blockers or privacy extensions can block or clear session cookies. Disable extensions for the site or add an exception. Try signing in again.

Good: Session persists with extensions disabled.
Bad: Still expires—try a different browser or contact support.

Try a different browser or device

Goal: Isolate whether the issue is with one browser or device.

If the session works in another browser or on your phone, the issue is with the first browser. Clear cookies, disable extensions, or reinstall the browser in the affected one.

Good: Session works elsewhere—fix or replace the affected browser.
Bad: Same error everywhere—contact support.

Check for account or security alerts

Goal: See if the service expired all sessions due to suspicious activity or a password change.

Some services expire all sessions when they detect suspicious activity or a password change. Check your email for security alerts. If you see one, follow the link to secure the account, then sign in again.

Good: No pending alerts; account secured.
Bad: Alerts addressed but session still expires—contact support.

When to get help

Goal: Know when self-service has failed and support is needed.

Contact support if you sign in and are immediately logged out, the session expires within minutes every time, or you see “session expired” right after a successful login. Provide your account email and a brief description of what happens.

Verification

  • You can sign in and reach your account or dashboard.
  • The session stays active for at least several minutes (or longer with “Remember me”).
  • No “session expired” message appears right after login.

Escalation ladder

Work from the device outward. Stop when the problem is fixed.

  1. Sign back in Enter credentials and complete two-factor if required.
  2. Remember me Check "Remember me" or "Stay signed in" to extend the session.
  3. Clear cookies Clear cookies for the site and sign in again.
  4. Fix time sync Set device date and time to automatic.
  5. Contact support Provide account email and what happens when you sign in.

Frequently asked questions

Why would my session expire?
Sessions expire for security—after inactivity, after a set time, or when the server invalidates them. Some sites use short sessions (15–30 minutes); others last days. "Remember me" often extends the session.
Will clearing cookies fix a session expired error?
Sometimes. Old or corrupted cookies can cause the site to think you are logged in when the server has already expired the session. Clear cookies for that site and sign in again.
When should I contact support for session issues?
If you sign in and are immediately logged out, or the session expires within minutes every time, the account or app may have an issue. Contact support with your account email and what happens.
