Goal: Confirm the correct input is selected and the HDMI cable is connected.

  • Use the TV remote to select the HDMI input where the Apple TV is plugged in.
  • Confirm the HDMI cable is firmly connected at both ends. Reseat if loose.
  • Good: Correct input selected and cable snug. The Apple TV home screen appears. Done.
  • Bad: Still no display—proceed to Check resolution and power-cycle.

Check resolution and power-cycle

Goal: Rule out HDMI handshake failure and resolution mismatch.

  • Unplug the Apple TV and TV from power. Wait 30 seconds. Plug back in.
  • On the Apple TV, go to Settings > Video and Audio > Format. Try 1080p SDR if 4K or HDR fails.
  • Good: Power-cycle or lower resolution fixes it. The display appears. Done.
  • Bad: Still no display—call a technician.

  • You have checked input, cable, port, and power-cycle with a known-good cable and the Apple TV still does not display on any port.
