Steps
Goal: Confirm the symptom, check batteries and backlight, then rule out line of sight.
- Confirm the backlit remote does not work—no response, dim backlight, or backlight does not turn on.
- Good: You have confirmed the symptom. Proceed to Replace batteries.
- Bad: Remote works sometimes—may be batteries.
Replace batteries
Goal: Rule out low batteries. Backlit remotes use more power.
- Replace with fresh AA or AAA batteries. Check TV Settings for backlight timeout—constant backlight drains batteries fast.
- Good: Batteries replaced. Proceed to Check line of sight.
- Bad: Still no response—check line of sight and power-cycle.
Check line of sight
Goal: Rule out blocked path to the TV IR sensor.
- Backlit remotes use IR. Clear obstacles. Aim at the TV sensor. Test with a phone camera—you should see a faint glow when pressing buttons.
- Good: Path clear and remote emits IR. If TV still does not respond, the remote may be faulty.
- Bad: Path blocked—clear it and test.
