Steps
Goal: Confirm the symptom, check input and power, then rule out HDMI connection issues.
- Confirm Chromecast does not show a picture on the TV—blank screen or no signal.
- Good: You have confirmed the symptom. Proceed to Check input and power.
- Bad: Chromecast displays sometimes—may be loose connection.
Check input and power
Goal: Confirm the correct input is selected and Chromecast has power.
- Use the TV remote to select the HDMI input for the Chromecast dongle, or the Chromecast input for built-in.
- For dongles: confirm the USB cable is connected. Use a wall adapter if the TV USB port does not power the Chromecast when the TV is off.
- Good: Correct input selected and Chromecast has power. The home screen appears. Done.
- Bad: Still no picture—proceed to Check HDMI connection.
Check HDMI connection
Goal: Rule out loose or faulty HDMI cable and bad ports.
- Reseat the HDMI cable at the TV and at the Chromecast. Try a different HDMI port on the TV.
- Try a known-good HDMI cable. A faulty cable is a common cause of no picture.
- Good: Cable reseated or replaced. The picture appears. Done.
- Bad: Still no picture—proceed to Power-cycle.
Power-cycle
Goal: Reset Chromecast and TV.
- Unplug the Chromecast from power (or unplug the TV if built-in). Unplug the TV. Wait 30 seconds. Plug back in.
- Good: Power-cycle fixes it. Chromecast displays. Done.
- Bad: Still no picture—factory reset from Google Home app.
