Steps
Goal: Confirm input and source, then rule out cable, hard drive, and power-cycle issues.
- Confirm the correct HDMI or component input is selected on the TV. Wrong input shows no picture.
- Good: You have confirmed input. Proceed to Check input and cable.
- Bad: TV will not turn on—see fix-tv-will-not-turn-on.
Check input and cable
Goal: Rule out wrong input and loose cable.
- Use the TV remote to select the input where the DVR is connected.
- Confirm the DVR is on and recordings exist in the library.
- Reseat the HDMI or component cable at both ends.
- Good: Correct input and cable. Signal appears. Done.
- Bad: Still no signal—proceed to Check DVR and hard drive.
Check DVR and hard drive
Goal: Rule out DVR power, hard drive full, or drive failure.
- Check the DVR hard drive status in Settings or Diagnostics.
- If storage is full, delete old recordings. If the DVR reports drive error, the drive may need replacement.
- Power-cycle the TV and DVR—unplug both for 30 seconds, plug back in.
- Good: Storage freed or drive OK. Playback works. Done.
- Bad: Drive failed or all checks done and still no play—call a technician.

Call a TV or DVR repair technician if:
- You have checked input, cable, power-cycle, and hard drive and the DVR still does not play recordings.

- The TV shows picture and sound from the DVR.
