Steps
Goal: Confirm the symptom, try menu and button reset, then rule out power state and restrictions.
- Confirm the factory reset does nothing—menu grayed out, button combo fails, or reset hangs.
- Good: You have confirmed the symptom. Proceed to Try menu reset.
- Bad: TV will not turn on—see fix-tv-will-not-turn-on.
Try menu reset
Goal: Use the Settings menu to run a factory reset.
- Open TV Settings. Look for Support, General, System, or Reset. Select “Factory Reset” or “Reset to Initial Settings”.
- If the option is grayed out, check parental controls. Enter the PIN (default often 0000 or 1234) to clear the restriction.
- Good: Reset runs and completes. TV reboots to setup. Done.
- Bad: Option grayed out or reset hangs—proceed to Try button combo.
Try button combo
Goal: Use the physical button combo for your TV model.
- Search “[brand] [model] factory reset” for the correct combo. Common: Power + Volume Down, hold 10–15 seconds.
- Unplug the TV for 60 seconds first if the TV is stuck. Plug back in and try the combo.
- Good: Reset menu appears or TV starts resetting. Wait for it to complete.
- Bad: No response—try Recovery mode or call a pro.
Recovery mode
Goal: Access recovery mode to reset when the menu and button combo fail.
- Unplug the TV. Hold Power (or Power + Volume Down). Plug the TV back in while holding. Release when you see a recovery menu.
- Select “Wipe data” or “Factory reset” if shown. Check your model manual for exact steps.
- Good: Reset runs from recovery. TV reboots to setup.
- Bad: No recovery menu or reset hangs—call a pro.
