Steps
Goal: Confirm the symptom, check power and inputs, then rule out cable and handshake issues.
- Confirm the HDMI switch shows no picture or no signal when you switch sources.
- Good: You have confirmed the symptom. Proceed to Check power and inputs.
- Bad: The switch works for some sources but not others—may be a specific cable or source.
Check power and inputs
Goal: Confirm the HDMI switch has power and the correct inputs are selected.
- Confirm the switch has power. Most need USB or wall adapter. Check the LED if present.
- Use the TV remote to select the HDMI input where the switch output is plugged in.
- Use the switch button or remote to select the input that matches your source device.
- Confirm the source device is on and outputting.
- Good: Power on and inputs correct. The signal appears. Done.
- Bad: Still no signal—proceed to Check cable connections.
Check cable connections
Goal: Rule out loose or faulty HDMI cables.
- Unplug all HDMI cables at the switch—output to TV and inputs from sources. Plug them back in firmly.
- Try a different HDMI port on the TV for the switch output.
- Try a known-good HDMI cable for the switch output.
- Good: Cable reseated or replaced. The signal appears. Done.
- Bad: Still no signal—proceed to Power-cycle.
Power-cycle
Goal: Reset HDMI handshake between switch, TV, and sources.
- Unplug the switch, TV, and all source devices from power. Wait 30 seconds.
- Plug the switch in first, then sources, then the TV. Turn on sources first, then the TV.
- Good: Power-cycle fixes it. The signal appears. Done.
- Bad: Still no signal—the switch may be faulty. Replace it or call a technician.
