Steps
Goal: Confirm connection type, then rule out jack, output, pairing, and volume.
- Determine if the headphones are wired (3.5 mm jack) or Bluetooth.
- Good: You know the type. Proceed to Wired — Check jack and output or Bluetooth — Check pairing.
- Bad: Unsure—check the headphones and TV ports.
Wired — Check jack and output
Goal: Confirm the plug is seated and the TV sends audio to the headphone jack.
- Push the plug firmly into the TV headphone jack. Open TV Settings > Audio. Set output to Headphone or Variable.
- Test the headphones with a phone or computer to rule out faulty headphones.
- Good: Plug in, output correct, headphones work elsewhere. Sound from TV. Done.
- Bad: Still no sound—proceed to Power-cycle.
Bluetooth — Check pairing
Goal: Confirm the headphones are paired with the TV.
- Put the headphones in pairing mode (hold Bluetooth button). Open TV Settings > Bluetooth. Add the headphones. If the paired list is full, remove an unused device.
- Good: Headphones paired. Check volume. Done.
- Bad: Will not pair—proceed to Power-cycle.
Power-cycle
Goal: Reset the TV audio output.
- Unplug the TV from power. Wait 30 seconds. Plug it back in. For Bluetooth, put headphones in pairing mode and reconnect.
- Good: Power-cycle fixes the issue. Headphones work. Done.
- Bad: Still no sound—call a technician.
