Steps

Goal: Confirm the symptom, enable Game Mode, and reduce processing.

  • Check whether there is a delay between pressing a button and the on-screen response. Gaming and menu navigation feel sluggish.
  • Good: You have confirmed the symptom. Proceed to Enable Game Mode.
  • Bad: Unclear—try a different source or input to confirm.

Enable Game Mode

Goal: Turn on Game Mode to reduce input lag.

  • Use the TV remote. Go to Picture, Display, or Input settings. Look for Game Mode, Game Optimizer, Low Latency Mode, or ALLM.
  • Turn on Game Mode. This disables picture processing that adds lag.
  • Good: The response feels faster. Done.
  • Bad: Still laggy—proceed to Check HDMI and source.

Check HDMI and source

Goal: Use the gaming HDMI port and optimize the source device.

  • Use the HDMI port labeled for gaming (HDMI 2.1, Game, 4K 120Hz). Non-gaming ports may have more processing.
  • Turn off motion smoothing and noise reduction in picture settings.
  • Check the source device (game console, PC) for Game Mode or low latency options.
  • Good: Lag is reduced. Done.
  • Bad: Still laggy—power-cycle or call a technician.

Frequently asked questions

Why would a TV have input lag?
Picture processing—motion smoothing, upscaling, HDR—adds delay. Game Mode bypasses or reduces this. Wrong HDMI port or settings can increase lag.
Can I fix input lag myself?
Yes. Enable Game Mode or low latency mode. Turn off motion smoothing. Use the gaming HDMI port. Most TVs have a Game Mode that cuts lag significantly.
When should I call a technician for input lag?
If Game Mode is on and lag persists, or the TV has no Game Mode. Some older TVs have high base lag—replacement may be the only fix.
