Steps
Goal: Confirm the symptom, check batteries and pairing steps, then rule out power-cycle and firmware.
- Confirm the remote will not pair—pairing fails, times out, or the TV does not detect the remote.
- Good: You have confirmed the symptom. Proceed to Replace batteries.
- Bad: Remote pairs but does not work—see fix-tv-remote-will-not-work.
Replace batteries
Goal: Rule out low batteries blocking pairing.
- Open the battery compartment. Replace with fresh AA or AAA batteries. Confirm polarity.
- Good: Batteries replaced. Proceed to Remove old pairing.
- Bad: Still will not pair—proceed to remove old pairing and retry.
Remove old pairing
Goal: Clear any conflicting pairing before re-pairing.
- Open TV Settings > Remote, Bluetooth, or Connected Devices. Remove or forget the remote if it is listed.
- Put the remote in pairing mode per the manual (often hold Pair or Bluetooth button).
- Start pairing from the TV. Keep the remote within 3 feet. Wait for detection.
- Good: TV detects and pairs the remote. Done.
- Bad: Pairing fails or times out—proceed to Power-cycle.
Power-cycle
Goal: Reset the TV pairing state.
- Unplug the TV from power for 30 seconds. Plug it back in and turn it on.
- Remove old pairing again. Put the remote in pairing mode. Retry from the TV.
- Good: Power-cycle fixes it. Done.
- Bad: Still will not pair—check for firmware update or replace the remote.
When to get help
Replace the remote if:
- Fresh batteries, re-pair steps, and power-cycle do not fix it. Use an OEM remote from the manufacturer.
Call a TV repair technician if:
- No remote will pair with the TV—the TV Bluetooth or RF module may have failed.
