Steps

Goal: Confirm the symptom, check batteries and microphone, then rule out settings and pairing.

  • Confirm the voice remote does not work—buttons may work but voice fails, or the remote does nothing.
  • Good: You have confirmed the symptom. Proceed to Replace batteries.
  • Bad: Remote works sometimes—may be batteries or microphone.

Replace batteries

Goal: Rule out low batteries. Voice remotes use more power for the microphone.

  • Replace with fresh AA or AAA batteries. Clear the microphone opening—remove stickers, film, or debris.
  • Good: Batteries and microphone clear. Proceed to Check voice settings.
  • Bad: Still no voice—check settings and pairing.

Check voice settings

Goal: Confirm voice is enabled and the remote is paired.

  • Open TV Settings > Voice or Remote. Confirm voice control is enabled. Accept terms if prompted.
  • Check TV Settings > Remote or Bluetooth. Re-pair the voice remote if needed.
  • Test in a quiet room. Speak clearly, 6–12 inches from the remote.
  • Good: Voice enabled and paired. Remote works. Done.
  • Bad: Still no voice—power-cycle TV and remote, then test again.

Power-cycle

Goal: Reset the Bluetooth and voice connection.

  • Unplug the TV for 30 seconds. Remove remote batteries for 30 seconds. Plug back in and reinsert batteries. Re-pair if needed.
  • Test with a phone camera: point the remote at the camera and press a button. You should see a faint glow if the IR part works.
  • Good: Power-cycle fixes it. Done.
  • Bad: Voice still fails—replace the remote. If TV buttons also do not work, see fix-tv-remote-will-not-work.

When to get help

Replace the voice remote if:

  • Fresh batteries, clear microphone, correct settings, and re-pairing do not fix it. The microphone may be faulty.

Call a TV repair technician if:

  • The TV physical buttons also do not work—the TV may have a receiver fault.

Verification

  • The voice remote responds to voice commands.
  • Buttons control power, volume, and input.
  • Batteries are fresh and the microphone is clear.
  • Voice is enabled in TV Settings and the remote is paired.

Escalation ladder

  1. Batteries Replace with fresh batteries.
  2. Microphone Clear the microphone opening.
  3. Voice settings Confirm voice enabled in TV Settings.
