Steps
Goal: Confirm the symptom, set picture size, and check the source output.
- Check whether the image looks stretched (too wide), squashed (too tall), or cropped. Circles should look round, not oval.
- Good: You have confirmed the symptom. Proceed to Check picture size.
- Bad: Unclear—try different content (movie, live TV) to confirm.
Check picture size
Goal: Set the TV picture size or aspect ratio to correct proportions.
- Use the TV remote. Press Settings or Menu. Go to Picture, Display, or Screen. Look for Picture Size, Aspect Ratio, or Screen Fit.
- Select Auto, 16:9, or Original. Avoid Stretch, Zoom, or Fill if they distort the image.
- Good: The image has correct proportions. Done.
- Bad: Still distorted—proceed to Check source output.
Check source output
Goal: Confirm the source device is outputting the correct resolution and aspect ratio.
- Check the cable box, streaming stick, or game console settings. Look for Display, Video, or Output. Set to 1080p or 4K with 16:9.
- Power-cycle the TV and source: unplug both for 30 seconds, plug back in. Turn on the source first, then the TV.
- Good: The image has correct proportions. Done.
- Bad: Still distorted—check for firmware update or call a technician.
Power-cycle
Goal: Reset handshake between TV and source.
- Unplug the TV and the source device from power. Wait 30 seconds. Plug both back in. Turn on the source first, then the TV.
- Good: Power-cycle fixes the issue. Done.
- Bad: Still wrong—call a technician.
