Steps

Goal: Check that the device is online, can hear you, and has the right phrase and skill.

  • Confirm the device has power and is online. Verify you should see it in the app.
  • Speak clearly and use the wake word plus the command. Confirm the device acknowledges.
  • Check the app for the exact phrase and confirm the skill is enabled.
  • Good: The voice command works. Bad: The command still fails—restart the speaker or call support.

Power and Wi‑Fi

Goal: Confirm the device is online.

  • Check power and Wi‑Fi. Offline devices cannot process voice commands.
  • Good: Device is online. Bad: Device offline—get it online first.

Phrase and skills

Goal: Confirm the phrase and skill are correct.

  • Use the exact phrase from the app. Confirm the skill or integration is enabled for the device or service.
  • Good: Phrase and skill correct. Bad: Wrong phrase or skill disabled—fix and try again.

When to get help

Call the manufacturer if:

  • The voice command still will not work after checking power, microphone, phrase, and skills.
  • You have tried all steps and the device never responds to the command.

Verification

  • The device responds to the wake word.
  • The voice command executes the expected action.
  • No “I did not understand” or similar errors.
