Steps

Goal: Check if the network is hidden, confirm SSID broadcast, try both bands, add manually, and update the driver—so the network appears or we tell you when to call support.

  • Check if the network is hidden—if so, add it manually with the exact SSID and password.
  • Log into the router and confirm SSID broadcast is enabled.
  • Try both 2.4 and 5 GHz bands—some devices only see one.
  • Good: Network appears or connects after manual add. Proceed to Verification.
  • Bad: Network still does not appear. Proceed to When to get help.

Hidden network

Goal: Add a hidden network manually.

  • If the network is hidden, it will not appear in the list.
  • Go to Wi‑Fi settings → Add network (or “Other” / “Hidden network”).
  • Enter the exact SSID (case-sensitive) and password.
  • Confirm you should see the network saved and connected.

Router settings

Goal: Confirm SSID broadcast and try both bands.

  • Log into the router admin (often 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1—check the sticker).
  • In Wi‑Fi or Wireless settings, confirm “SSID broadcast” is on (or “Hide SSID” is off).
  • Check if the router has separate networks for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Try both.
  • 5 GHz has shorter range—move closer if you expect 5 GHz.
  • Confirm you should see at least one band in the list.

Add network manually

Goal: Add the network even if it does not appear.

  • On the device, go to Wi‑Fi settings.
  • Look for “Add network”, “Other”, or “Hidden network”.
  • Enter the exact SSID and password.
  • Confirm you should see the network saved and connected.

Driver and firmware

Goal: Update the Wi‑Fi driver and router firmware.

  • On Windows: Device Manager → Network adapters → right-click the Wi‑Fi adapter → Update driver.
  • On Mac: check for system updates.
  • In the router admin, check for a firmware update.
  • Restart the router after changes.
  • Confirm you should see the driver and firmware updated.

When to get help

If the network still does not appear after checking hidden, broadcast, bands, manual add, driver update, and restart, contact your router manufacturer or ISP. Provide:

  • Exact SSID (spelling)
  • Band (2.4 or 5 GHz)
  • Steps you already tried

Verification

  • The network appears in the list or connects after manual add.
  • SSID broadcast is enabled if you want the network visible.
  • Wi‑Fi driver is up to date; router firmware is up to date.

Escalation ladder

Work from the device outward. Stop when the problem is fixed.

  1. Check hidden Add network manually if hidden.
  2. SSID broadcast and band Confirm broadcast on; try 2.4 and 5 GHz.
  3. Manual add and restart Add network manually; restart router.
  4. Driver and firmware Update Wi‑Fi driver; update router firmware.
  5. Call support Router manufacturer or ISP if all steps fail.

What to capture if you need help

Before calling support or posting for help, have these ready. It speeds everything up.

  • SSID (exact spelling)
  • Band (2.4 or 5 GHz)
  • Steps already tried

Does the network appear in the list?

Check the device Wi‑Fi settings for available networks.

Open Wi‑Fi settings on the device. Look for the network name. Good: network appears—connect. Bad: network does not appear—proceed.

You can change your answer later.

Is the network hidden?

Hidden networks do not appear in the list. You must add manually.

Check the router admin: is "Hide SSID" or "SSID broadcast" off? If hidden, add the network manually: Wi‑Fi settings → Add network → enter exact SSID and password. Good: added manually—may connect. Bad: not hidden or manual add failed—check broadcast and band.

You can change your answer later.

Add network manually

Wi‑Fi settings → Add network (or "Other" / "Hidden network") → enter exact SSID and password. Confirm you should see the network saved.

Is SSID broadcast enabled?

Log into router admin and check Wi‑Fi settings.

Log into router (192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1). Check "SSID broadcast" or "Hide SSID"—broadcast should be on. Good: broadcast on—try band and driver. Bad: broadcast off—enable it.

You can change your answer later.

Enable SSID broadcast

In router admin, enable SSID broadcast (turn off "Hide SSID"). Save and restart router. The network should appear.

Try both 2.4 and 5 GHz bands

Some devices only see one band. 5 GHz has shorter range.

Check if the router has separate networks for 2.4 and 5 GHz. Try both. Move closer for 5 GHz. Update Wi‑Fi driver on the device. Restart router. Good: network appears. Bad: still not visible—call support.

You can change your answer later.

Call support

Contact router manufacturer or ISP. Provide exact SSID, band, and steps tried.

Network appears or connected

The network is now visible or connected. If it disappears again, check broadcast and band.
