Steps
Goal: Fix boot order, media, and compatibility so the install starts.
- Check boot order—set USB or DVD first in BIOS, or use the boot menu key.
- Good: Install screen appears. Proceed with installation.
- Bad: Recreate media or disable Secure Boot.
Check boot order
Goal: Make the PC boot from the install media.
- Enter BIOS (F2, Del, F10). Set USB or DVD first in boot order. Or use boot menu key (F12, F11, Esc) and select the media.
- Good: Windows install screen appears.
- Bad: Try a different USB port (USB 2.0) or recreate the media.
Recreate install media
Goal: Ensure the media is bootable.
- On another PC, run Media Creation Tool. Create a fresh USB. Use 8 GB or larger. Try USB 2.0 port on the target PC.
- Good: Install starts.
- Bad: Disable Secure Boot in BIOS or call a technician.
When to get help
Call a technician if:
- Known-good media does not boot on the target PC.
- Hardware errors appear during install.
- The drive or RAM may have failed.
