  • Task Manager, Processes, click Memory column. Note the top programs.
  • Good: You see the programs. Close them.
  • Bad: Disable startup and restart.

Close programs

Goal: Free RAM by closing programs.

  • Close browser tabs and extra apps. Each uses RAM.
  • Good: Memory usage drops.
  • Bad: Disable startup and restart.

When to get help

Call a technician if:

  • You need to add RAM and are unsure how.
  • The PC has other hardware issues.
  • RAM fills up immediately after restart with nothing open.

Verification

  • Task Manager shows memory usage below 90 percent with normal use.
