Steps

Goal: Get right-click working again.

Restart Explorer

Goal: Restart the shell.

  • Task Manager > Windows Explorer > Restart.
  • Good: Right-click works. Bad: Test in Safe Mode.

Disable shell extensions

Goal: Find faulty context menu handler.

  • Use ShellExView. Disable non-Microsoft context menu handlers. Test after each.
  • Good: Culprit found. Bad: Check mouse; run SFC.

Call a technician if:

  • Right-click fails in Safe Mode with a known-good mouse.
  • Consider Reset this PC.
