Steps

Goal: Fix sleep so PC sleeps when idle.

  • Set sleep timeout. Run powercfg /requests to find blockers.
  • Good: Sleep works. Bad: Disable wake sources.

Set sleep timeout

Goal: Configure when PC sleeps.

  • Settings > Power > Screen and sleep. Set “PC goes to sleep after”.
  • Good: Timeout set. Bad: Set to 15 min or desired.

Find blockers

Goal: See what prevents sleep.

  • Run powercfg /requests as admin. Disable wake timers. Disable device wake.
  • Good: No blockers. Bad: Update driver or disable wake.

When to get help

Call a technician if:

  • Power settings are correct and no device blocks sleep.
  • Motherboard or power may need service.

Verification

  • PC goes to sleep after the set timeout.
  • powercfg /requests shows no persistent blockers.
  • Wake timers disabled if desired.

Is sleep timeout set?

Sleep must be configured.

Settings > Power > Screen and sleep. Set "PC goes to sleep after". Good: timeout set. Bad: set it—Never means no sleep.
