Steps

Goal: Close the program, use the built-in uninstaller, then the troubleshooter if needed.

  • Close the program and end its processes. Uninstall from Settings or Control Panel.
  • Good: Uninstall completes. You are done.
  • Bad: Run as Administrator or use the Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter.

Close and uninstall

Goal: Ensure the program is not running before uninstall.

  • Task Manager, end the process. Close all windows. Settings, Apps, Uninstall.
  • Good: Uninstall succeeds.
  • Bad: Run the uninstaller as Administrator.

Run troubleshooter

Goal: Fix corrupted uninstallers with Microsoft’s tool.

  • Download the Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter. Run it, select Uninstalling, choose the program.
  • Good: Troubleshooter removes the program.
  • Bad: Try Safe Mode or call a technician.

When to get help

Call a technician if:

  • Uninstall consistently fails after these steps.
  • You see registry or system errors.
  • You are unsure about manual cleanup.

Verification

  • The program no longer appears in Settings, Apps.
  • The program folder is gone from Program Files (or only empty remnants remain).
  • No errors when opening related apps.

Work from the device outward. Stop when the problem is fixed.

  1. Close and uninstall End processes; uninstall from Settings or Control Panel.
  2. Run as Administrator Right-click uninstaller, Run as administrator.

Is the program closed?

Running programs block uninstall.

Close all windows. Open Task Manager, end any processes for that program. Good: Program closed—try uninstall. Bad: Close it first.

Find the uninstaller in the program folder or Control Panel. Right-click, Run as administrator. If still failing, run the Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter.

The program is removed. Check for leftover folders in Program Files if needed.

Why would uninstall fail on Windows?

Can I delete program folders manually?
Only after trying the uninstaller and troubleshooter. Deleting folders without uninstalling can leave registry entries and cause problems. Use with caution.
