  • Bad: Cloud is easier for most users; computer gives a local copy.

iPhone — iCloud

Goal: Back up the iPhone to iCloud.

  • Settings, [your name], iCloud, iCloud Backup. Turn on. Tap Back Up Now. Confirm Wi‑Fi and charging. Wait for completion.
  • Good: Last backup shows a recent time. You are done.
  • Bad: Check iCloud storage; free space if full.

iPhone — Computer

Goal: Back up the iPhone to a Mac or PC.

  • Connect with cable. Mac: Finder, select iPhone, Back Up Now. PC: iTunes, select iPhone, Back Up Now. Wait for completion.
  • Good: Backup complete in Finder or iTunes. You are done.
  • Bad: Confirm the computer trusts the device and has disk space.

Android — Google

Goal: Back up the Android phone to Google.

  • Settings, Google, Backup. Turn on. Tap Back up now. Confirm Wi‑Fi. Wait for completion.
  • Good: Backup complete. You are done.
  • Bad: Check Google storage; free space if full.

Android — Manufacturer

Goal: Use the manufacturer backup tool if available.

  • Settings, Accounts and backup (or similar). Use Samsung Backup, Mi Cloud, or the brand tool. Follow prompts.
  • Good: Backup complete. You are done.
  • Bad: Use Google Backup as an alternative.

Verification

  • iPhone: Settings, iCloud, iCloud Backup—Last backup is recent.
  • Android: Settings, Google, Backup—Last backup is recent.
  • Computer: Finder or iTunes shows last backup date.
  • Automatic backup is enabled for future backups.
