Steps

Goal: Confirm the symptom, check source output and cable, then rule out TV port and content.

Check source and cable

Goal: Confirm the source outputs 8K and the cable supports HDMI 2.1 bandwidth.

  • Open the source device display or video settings. Set output to 8K or 7680×4320.
  • Use an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable. Reseat at both ends.
  • Good: Source outputs 8K and cable supports it. Proceed to Check TV port and settings.
  • Bad: Source not set or cable unknown—fix source and try a known-good Ultra High Speed cable.

Check TV port and settings

Goal: Confirm the TV has an HDMI 2.1 port and the input mode allows 8K.

  • Check the TV manual for which ports support HDMI 2.1. Use that port.
  • Open TV Settings > Input. Enable Enhanced or HDMI 2.1 mode for that port.
  • Good: TV port and mode correct. 8K activates. Done.
  • Bad: Still no 8K—power-cycle to reset HDMI handshake, or call a technician.

When to get help

Call a TV repair technician if:

  • 8K works on one source but not another with the same cable and settings.
  • The TV never shows 8K with a known 8K source after all checks.

Verification

  • The TV displays 8K when the source outputs 8K—check TV info overlay or source display settings.
  • The source is set to output 8K.
  • The HDMI cable is Ultra High Speed and firmly connected.
  • The TV input is on an HDMI 2.1 port with Enhanced mode enabled.

Escalation ladder

Work from the device outward. Stop when the problem is fixed.

  1. Source output Confirm source outputs 8K; enable in source settings.
  2. HDMI cable Use Ultra High Speed cable; reseat at both ends.
  3. TV port Use HDMI 2.1 port; enable Enhanced mode for that port.
  4. Power-cycle Unplug TV and source for 30 seconds; plug back in.
  5. Call a pro 8K does not work with known 8K source after all checks.

Does the source output 8K?

Source must output 8K.

Open source device display or video settings. Set to 8K or 7680×4320. Yes: check cable. No: enable, then test.

You can change your answer later.

Enable 8K on source and test

Set source output to 8K. Test. If 8K appears, done. If not, check cable and TV port.

Is the HDMI cable Ultra High Speed?

8K needs 48 Gbps.

Check cable label. Use Ultra High Speed or HDMI 2.1. Reseat at both ends. Good cable: check TV port. Unknown or old: try a known-good Ultra High Speed cable.

You can change your answer later.

Try different cable and test

Use an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable. Reseat. Test. If 8K appears, done. If not, check TV port and power-cycle.

Is the TV port HDMI 2.1 and set to Enhanced?

Some ports are HDMI 2.0 only.

Check TV manual for HDMI 2.1 ports. Enable Enhanced or HDMI 2.1 mode for that port in TV Settings. Correct: power-cycle. Wrong port: use correct port, then test.

You can change your answer later.

Use correct port and enable mode

Plug into HDMI 2.1 port. Enable Enhanced or 8K mode for that port. Test. If 8K appears, done. If not, power-cycle and confirm content is 8K.

Power-cycle and confirm content

Unplug TV and source for 30 seconds. Plug back in. Confirm content is 8K. If 8K appears, done. If not, call a technician.
