Check input and plugs

Goal: Confirm the correct AV input is selected and composite video plugs are in the correct jacks.

  • Use the TV remote to select AV, Video, or Composite—the input where the composite cable is plugged in.
  • Confirm yellow-to-yellow (video), red-to-red, white-to-white at both TV and source.
  • Good: Correct input and plug mapping. The signal appears. Done.
  • Bad: No picture—check yellow is in yellow. No sound—check red and white. Proceed to Check source device.

Check source device

Goal: Confirm the source device is on and outputting.

  • Check that the DVD player, game console, or VCR is powered on. Wake it if needed.
  • Good: Source is on. The signal appears. Done.
  • Bad: Still no signal—reseat plugs, try different cable, power-cycle.

Power-cycle

Goal: Reset the connection with a power-cycle.

  • Unplug the TV and the source device from power. Wait 30 seconds. Plug both back in. Turn on the source first, then the TV.
  • Good: Power-cycle fixes the issue. The signal appears. Done.
  • Bad: Still no signal—call a technician.
