Check source and cable
Goal: Confirm the source supports FreeSync and the cable supports HDMI 2.1.
- Open AMD Software (Adrenalin) on PC or Xbox Settings > Video modes. Confirm FreeSync or VRR is available.
- Use an HDMI cable labeled Ultra High Speed or HDMI 2.1. Reseat at both ends.
- Good: Source supports FreeSync and cable supports HDMI 2.1. Proceed to Check TV settings.
- Bad: Source not compatible or cable unknown—confirm TV supports FreeSync and try a known-good HDMI 2.1 cable.
Check TV settings
Goal: Confirm the TV VRR or FreeSync settings allow it to activate.
- Open TV Settings > Picture or Game. Enable FreeSync, VRR, or Variable Refresh Rate.
- Use the HDMI port labeled for gaming (HDMI 2.1). Enable Game Mode.
- Good: TV FreeSync enabled. FreeSync activates. Done.
- Bad: Still no FreeSync—power-cycle to reset HDMI handshake, or call a technician.
