Steps
Goal: Confirm the symptom, check source and cable, then rule out TV settings and compatibility.
- Check whether you see screen tearing or stutter when gaming and G-Sync should be active.
- Good: You have confirmed the symptom. Proceed to Check source and cable.
- Bad: No picture—see fix-tv-has-no-picture or fix-tv-has-no-signal.
Check source and cable
Goal: Confirm the source is an NVIDIA GPU and the cable supports G-Sync.
- Open NVIDIA Control Panel on the PC. Under Display > Set up G-Sync, confirm the TV appears.
- Use an HDMI cable labeled Ultra High Speed or HDMI 2.1. Reseat at both ends.
- Good: NVIDIA GPU detected and cable supports HDMI 2.1. Proceed to Check TV settings.
- Bad: TV not listed or cable unknown—confirm TV supports G-Sync and try a known-good HDMI 2.1 cable.
Check TV settings
Goal: Confirm the TV VRR or G-Sync settings allow it to activate.
- Open TV Settings > Picture or Game. Enable G-Sync, VRR, or Variable Refresh Rate.
- Use the HDMI port labeled for gaming (HDMI 2.1). Enable Game Mode.
- Good: TV G-Sync enabled. G-Sync activates. Done.
- Bad: Still no G-Sync—power-cycle to reset HDMI handshake, or call a technician.
