Steps
Goal: Confirm TV input and display mode, then rule out lid, cable, and handshake issues.

- Good: You have confirmed input. Proceed to Check input and display mode.
- Bad: TV will not turn on—see fix-tv-will-not-turn-on.
Check input and display mode
Goal: Confirm the correct TV input is selected and the laptop is outputting to the external display.
- Use the TV remote to select the HDMI or PC input that matches where the cable is plugged in.
- Windows: press Win+P and select Duplicate or Extend. Mac: System Settings > Displays, add or mirror the TV. Open the laptop lid—some laptops disable external display when closed.
- Good: Correct input selected and display mode set. The signal appears. Done.
- Bad: Still no signal—proceed to Check cable and ports.
Check cable and ports
Goal: Rule out loose or faulty cable and bad ports.
- Unplug the HDMI or USB-C cable at both ends. Plug it back in firmly until it clicks. Try a different port on the laptop and on the TV.
- Try a known-good cable. Laptops with USB-C only need a USB-C-to-HDMI adapter or cable.
- Good: Cable reseated or replaced. The signal appears. Done.
- Bad: Still no signal—proceed to Power-cycle.
Power-cycle
Goal: Reset display handshake between TV and laptop.
- Unplug the TV and the laptop from power. Wait 30 seconds. Plug both back in. Turn on the laptop first, then the TV.
- Good: Power-cycle fixes the issue. The signal appears. Done.
- Bad: Still no signal—call a technician.
